Information for professionals
DRW has good relationships with doctors, counsellors, solicitors and other professionals. Some have attended the workshop to accelerate their own recovery from separation or divorce and are happy to recommend us to their clients. Others recommend us having seen the change that has occured in their clients after attending the workshop.
Please browse this web site for detailed information on DRW. We particularly recommend that you read about the organisation and the fundamental principles that govern it.
You can download and watch a 5 minute video introduction to DRW. This presentation along with an introduction to the structure of DRW is available on a DVD on request. This is useful for presenting at practice meetings or to other interested groups.
If you would like further information please contact the national organisation or your local group. We will be happy to supply posters for your office and leaflets to give to your clients.
Solicitors
DRW does not provide legal advice. Nor do we allow participants to offer such advice to each other during group discussions. If, during a group discussion, it becomes clear that legal advice is needed we will simply suggest that the person contacts a solicitor. We will not recommend a particular individual or firm.
The workshop covers the relationship with the former spouse and is often successful in reducing anger and bitterness, helping the particpant to understand that their ex may also be angry and hurting. This can reduce the tension between former partners and make resolving differences much easier.
Counsellors
DRW is complimentary to any help you give your clients. Divorce Recovery Workshop does not use trained counsellors or therapists but does have expert input to the video lectures and the course programme. Dr Bill Flanagan, who presents the lectures, founded DRW in the USA over 30 years ago. He has many years experience counselling divorced and separated couples and has an enormous knowledge of the subject. This is reflected in the excellent course he has put together. Therapists watching the video, which was made specially for the UK workshops, may recognise some of his methods. The workshop is solution focussed and aimed at helping the particpant to move forward on their own.
If it becomes clear during the workshop that someone requires further help we may suggest that they seek assistance but will not recommend a particular therapist or modality.
